Chinmoy Barma’s Experimental Film ‘Narakasur’

Chinmoy Barma recently released his latest short film ‘Narakasur’ in youtube. He has already established himself as an experimental filmmaker, making films with charging camera work and unusual themes. His latest film is also an assembly of dark themes and mystical visualisation.

About this film, he says- I make films as a hobby and for the love of art. If I can preserve even a small part of our rich culture through my art, that’s success for me. That’s why we have been experimenting with unconventional filmmaking to change the taste of our viewers, expose them to diverse types of films, and improve our skills simultaneously.

We’ve decided to release it for free for everyone to watch. We hope you watch the film and share your views in the comment section.

“Narakasur” is a short film in which we’ve endeavoured to utilise the art of masks to narrate the story of King Narakasur in a theatrical form. Mrinal, a dedicated science teacher in a government school, employs a unique blend of evolutionary theory and the mythology of Vishnu’s avatars to engage his students. However, his nights become bizarre as he becomes entangled in a recurring cycle, transforming into feral beings. Through this surreal journey, we explore the delicate boundary between evolved humanity and primal instincts in contemporary society, along with a portrayal of what reverse evolution might entail.
